Strategy Optimization

Position settings are global and can have a powerful effect on strategy performance. These settings should be considered during Strategy Optimization.

Position Type

Specifies the type of positions you want to open.

• Long only - signals will fire on bull trends, while bear trends will trigger technical ranging.

• Short only - signals will fire on bear trends, while bull trends will trigger technical ranging.

• Both Long and Short - signals will fire on bull and bear trends.

This setting can be useful for Strategy Optimization if the majority of the drawdowns are in the bullish or bearish direction.

Ranging Mode

Sets trend-based technical ranging on or off. Technical ranging triggered by setting Position Type to 'Long only' or 'Short only' and Trading Halts will not be affected. Deactivating Ranging Mode can be useful if ranging conditions occur too frequently and you wish to extend trend duration. This can be useful in Strategy Optimization if excessive technical ranging is reducing Net Profit.

If the system can not determine trend direction when Ranging Mode is deactivated, it will use the direction of the previous trend.
